Rome if you want to

For our last day in Rome, we decided to walk around with very little agenda and see what we could see.

First, we followed the hoards of tourists down the touristy streets, clogged with tourist-hungry street vendors and artists to the Spanish steps.

We made the climb...

And made our way to the top, where the Borghese villa and Medici gardens are.

...as well as a beautiful view!

We rented a funny little double bicycle thing and pedaled around the park, then made our way back the way we came. It was the perfect time of day to sit on the steps awhile and think.

On the way back, we decided to get off the well-beaten path a bit, and were rewarded with some Italian treasures.

And an antique farmacia, which sold all sorts of elixirs, soaps, perfumes and things.

We ended the night at dinner with Mom and John in an intimate little place just across the square from our hotel, which was a favorite with locals and quite delicious. Nicholas had the best duck he's ever eaten, and I had a perfectly cooked lamb. We had after dinner drinks on the rooftop, and one more glass of wine with our lovely view from the window.

A fitting way to end our time in Roma.
