Some pig
The lucky boar (la loggia del porcellino) is a bronze statue in the piazza del mercato nuovo, where we ate our gelato.
Legend has it that rubbing his nose will bring you good fortune.
We feel fortunate enough at the moment, so sent our wish to our good friend Elizabeth Holstien, who we just learned was bucked off a horse and very badly injured her arm.
Thankfully, she will be OK but did not have health insurance at the time of the accident (she just got back from an amazing trip backpacking around the world) and her injuries were extensive. We are sending lots of love and prayers your way sweet friend, and hope your luck turns around very soon!

(Elizabeth kept a travel blog while abroad too - hers was fantastic and you can read it here.)

No wonder his nose is so shiny!
ReplyDeleteIndeed! I forgot to mention that (though I guess it's fairly obvious). The boars eat all the grapes, which is why boar is a specialty on the menu in these parts. We saw a real one tonight on our drive back from dinner, not nearly as cute though!
